The Elements

The word Element means, literally, “basic part”. The idea of the universe being composed of several elements dates back to the Sumerian civilization at least. Many ancient cultural societies used the elements in their religious rites and magickal work. Since modern magick draws so heavily from the ancient, the elements are foundations of such magicks as the Tarot, Astrology, Alchemy, Numerology, Kabala…the list is endless. The elements are metaphors for symbolism and understanding the overall universe. Everything can be lined up under an elemental rulership. There are five elements, and every object, force or being is composed of a balanced amount of each element.

The elements form a process of creation, which may be begun or finished at any point. For the sake of clarity this process will be started and ended at Spirit.

  1. One DESIRES a situation to happen. (Spirit)
  1. One THINKS a plan to create the situation. (Air)
  1. One WILLS the situation and begins to act upon the plan. (Fire)
  1. One FEELS the situation becoming real as it is approached. (Water)
  1. One ACTUALIZES the situation and it is real. (Earth)
  1. In creating and realizing the desired situation one learns and gains new insight, power, emotion, experience and physical reality.

This leads to a further desire to grow and the process begins anew.
